Bean's Bites - Savor on Main Street

Took my second trip to Savor St. Charles over the weekend -- a newish spot on Main Street located across the street from Honky Tonk and Midwestern on North Main. Known for their American Cuisine "with a twist" (not too sure what the twist is, but there are some items on the menu you don't normally see), this is a solid spots with options for any palette. If you can do a few things very well, I know it’s a place I’ll want to go back to. And Savor had a few items that definitely brought us back.

Location:

221 N Main St, St Charles, MO 63301

The Drinks:

They pretty much have all the standards you'd expect from a Main Street Restaurant. I'm always going for the beers on tap - and they have good options: Mich Ultra, Kona Big Wave, Blue Moon caught my eye. Also have Modelo, Heavy Riff, Good News and more on tap for the adventurous beer drinkers, as well as a laundry list of canned/bottled brews.

Lots of signature cocktails as well. The Aperol Spritz was good and they have lots of spritz’s. They can make just about any cocktail you want, but they highlight the Stone Water Gimlet, Mojito, and Side Car above all else. They also have a wine list - both reds and whites and a Rosé.

The Food

I personally am not a fan of menus that are enormous and overwhelming with the amount of options -- I prefer a concise menu with a handful of options in different categories. And that's what Savor has -- the dinner menu fits on one page essentially, but isn't lacking good meals.

Appetizers

Labeled as "starters" on the menu, there's some great bites here (we love a good app, can't go out to dinner without trying something). My #1 recommendation here -- maybe for the whole menu -- are the Maple Glazed Brussel Sprouts. Super crispy, savory, have bacon and the glaze is unreal. The Loaded Tots were solid, the chili is very good (but the tots got a little soggy toward the end). The Bruschetta is delicious -- good balsamic glaze over the top, I'd be interested to try it "shrimp ceviche style." And we tried the Gnocchi Bites Saturday, which are simple but tasty, just fried Gnocchi w/ Olive oil and Parm.

Next trip I really want to try the Savor Style Shrimp -- if anyone's tried them, let me know how they are.

Wings

This is probably the best deal on the menu in my opinion: 1 lb of wings for $13 bucks of EITHER bone-in or boneless wings. So for the wing-purists who need them bone-in, it's the same price. And for those who just like a chicken nugget tossed in sauce - they're well-worth the price (and you get more). We got ours tossed in BBQ, but they have several flavors and you can upgrade them to "Trashed" or "Jazzed" for a couple more bucks (we never asked what made them trashed or jazzed, will next trip).

Burgers + Sandwiches

Something interesting that they offer is you can make any burger a smash burger if you want -- bigtime for me as a smash burger fanatic. They have a weekly special for burgers you can ask about each time you go in, and they also have a Turkey Burger, Veggie Burger option, plus a Grilled Chicken Sandwich for those wanting something healthier.

The Big Joe is a bacon and mozzarella sticks burger that my mouth would love but my waistline would hate. Another highlight fitting that description is the Adult Grilled Cheese which comes with 3 cheeses, roasted jalapeño poppers, and bacon.

Soups + Salads

We had some of Marsha's Famous Chili on our loaded tots, and they offer a Soup of the Day -- but I'm not a soup guy at restaurants, so you'll have to go elsewhere for recommendations on that front.

The Caesar Salad is, dare I say, one of the better Caesars I've had in the Chuck. Their dressing is really flavorful — plenty of lemon and really good croutons. We added Chicken, which they not only give you a bunch of, was actually really good -- not dry. They also offer a Cobb or House Salad, and you can get them in Half or Full for +$3.

Flatbreads

They only have 3 flatbread options, but we've tried 2 and both were phenomenal. The Hot Honey is my favorite -- cupped pepperonis, arugula, and lots and lots of Hot Honey. They also use a really good cheese, I think it's similar to like a goat cheese, which normally I wouldn’t spring for but is great. The Buffalo Chicken has buff sauce, bleu cheese, green onion, ranch, and chipotle chicken. That same chicken is on option 3, the Southwest Flatbread, which also comes with black bean corn salsa, Southwest pesto and sour cream.

Entrees

I'm unequipped to review the entrees because I personally haven't tried one, but my dad liked the Maple Bourbon Pork Chop. They also have a trio of pasta dishes you don't see everywhere -- Burnt Ends Mac & Cheese, Crawfish Ravioli, and Mushroom Ravioli. Also have a Chicken Parm.

Brunch

Any place on main street is excellent vibes for a weekend brunch, and when you got Bottomless Mimosas that fuels the fire. Savor's Brunch menu looks great. Girlfriend tried the Chicken n Waffles -- said they were great and had some kick. Breakfast burger, B&G, Savor Slinger (loaded brunch tots), Eggs Benedict, Pancakes and more.

Restaurant Rating:

As far as Main Street restaurants go, you can do a whole lot worse. Concise menu with options you don't find anywhere, and lots of American cuisines that I'm a huge fan of. Get a couple appetizers, get a couple drinks, share a flatbread or a burger and go have a fun night on Main. One negative about this spot is that it can take awhile for service -- I think they've been slightly understaffed in our visits because it's often the same waitress/waiter running around to all tables. But if you've got 60-75 minutes to spend at dinner, I think Savor is a worthy choice.

7.9/10
