The Emmys 2025 Predictions - Who Should Win, Who Will Win

The 77th Primetime Emmys are this Sunday 9/14. And while I'll be much more focused on the Minnesota Vikings vs the Atlanta Falcons, the Emmys are the one Award Show I like to pay the most attention to, because it's the one I'm most familiar with the nominees for. And even if you haven't seen all the shows nominated -- it's usually a pretty good gauge of what shows have the most buzz in the given year.

Much like the Oscars and the Golden Globes, I often disagree with the winners of the big awards at these Award Shows. And since the Academy doesn't want to give Bean's Blog the vote we deserve -- I instead must write about it. So Today, I'll be giving you the breakdown of who's nominated for what -- who I think will win each award -- and who should win each award.

Outstanding Drama Series

Andor
The Diplomat
The Last of Us
Paradise
The Pitt
Severance
Slow Horses
The White Lotus

Who Will Win: Severance
Who Should Win: The Pitt

Loaded category this year with plenty of worthy candidates. If you're one of the single-digit people who read my Andor and Star Wars blogs, you know my feelings on the criminally underrated show -- it deserves all the shine. The White Lotus had a down year, people love Paradise but it's too much of a mixed bag, Slow Horses consistently pumps out quality seasons every year. I'm unfamiliar with The Diplomat's game.

The Last of Us, Severance, and The Pitt are the heavy favorites in this category. While I think Episode 2 of The Last of Us' season 2 is the best TV episode of the year thus far -- I think everything that followed was a massive letdown, rushed, directionless television that doesn't deserve a win.

Severance is deservingly the #1 favorite and will likely win this award -- and I won't take too much issue. The long delay made fans rabid over the follow-up season, and it lived up to the hype for the most part. Beautifully-crafted show with great performances, an original premise, and kept people guessing throughout.

If I was deciding -- The Pitt would be my winner. It's debut season was a revelation -- TV returning to it's roots and making new waves in the space in a relevant, beautiful way. Every episode was exhilarating, and you get sucked in deeper with every hour/episode you spend with it. Best show of the year in my eyes (toss-up with Andor).

Outstanding Comedy Series

Abbott Elementary
The Bear
Hacks
Nobody Wants This
Only Murders in the Building
Shrinking
The Studio
What we Do in the Shadows

Who Will Win: The Studio
Who Should Win: Abbott Elementary

It's 3rd season is the one nominated at this year's Emmys, which is the weakest season of The Bear -- evident by it not being the betting favorite for the first time. I'll also never think it should win in this category because it isn't really a comedy, it's a 30-minute drama.

Nobody Wants This, Shrinking, and What we Do in the Shadows are shows that have been on my list for awhile, but I haven't gotten to them yet -- but don't expect any of the 3 to win. Only Murders has a much better chance, but I think it's gotten progressively worse each season and has lost some of the luster I loved about it early on.

Hacks I think would be an excellent and deserving winner -- it embodies the category in the truest form and is very underrated in talks of current great TV. Jean Smart is doing incredible work and the side characters are hilarious.

I think there's a very strong chance The Studio takes home this award -- Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg struck gold on Apple TV+ with this satirical spoof about a Major Movie Studio. I have mixed feelings about it as a winner, because I think the show is incredibly well-made and hysterical -- but is essentially a self-suck for Hollywood and the people working in this industry. But expect plenty of Sal Saperstein Thank You Speeches on stage.

My winner would be Abbott Elementary -- I think it's the perfect sitcom with lovable characters, hilarious plots, real heart, and under-appreciated actors who have to work a lot harder to make successful TV than a laundry list of A-listers getting hundreds of millions of dollars from Apple.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama

Kathy Bates, Matlock
Sharon Hogan, Bad Sisters
Britt Lower, Severance
Bella Ramsey, The Last of Us
Keri Russell, The Diplomat

Who Will Win: Kathy Bates
Who Should Win: Britt Lower

Kathy Bates is the overwhelming favorite in this category, but I'd be lying if I said I was locked in on the revamped Matlock series, so I can't pick her. Same goes for Keri Russell and Sharon Hogan -- while I'm sure they're doing great work on their respective shows.

That leaves Bella Ramsey for TLOU or Britt Lower for Severance. Which can also be phrased as Coughing Baby versus Hydrogen Bomb in this case. I'm sure there's plenty of Bella Ramsey/Ellie fans out there, but I'm not one of them. If she has 100 haters, I'm one of them. If she has 1 hater, I'm the 1. If she has no haters, I'm dead.

Britt Lower is the easy choice for me -- Helly is the most interesting character in the show to me and I think Lower's performance is a major factor in why she's so compelling, even when she's making decisions I don't necessarily agree with. Helly R is the heart of the revolution — even if her Outtie is trying everything she can to stop it.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama

Sterling K. Brown, Paradise
Gary Oldman, Slow Horses
Pedro Pascal, The Last of Us
Adam Scott, Severance
Noah Wyle, The Pitt

Who Will Win: Noah Wyle
Who Should Win: Noah Wyle

This category should be an absolute bloodbath. I love Sterling K and Gary Oldman -- two of the finest actors in the world, but I haven't finished either of their shows. Pedro Pascal is great as Joel in TLOU -- but if he wins this award I'll fucking riot. Spoiler alert -- he's not in the full season and has no business even being nominated for Season 2.

Adam Scott would be a fine winner in my eyes -- his dramatic turn in Severance is fun to watch and he does excellent work. But Noah Wyle is the only choice here -- as Dr. Robby he's endearing, complex, capable, and deeply human, and the entire show revolves around his presence. Best show of the year + best acting performance of the year = easy winner.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series

Zach Cherry, Severance
Walton Goggins, The White Lotus
Jason Isaacs, The White Lotus
James Marsden, Paradise
Sam Rockwell, The White Lotus
Trammell Tillman, Severance
John Torturro, Severance

Who Will Win: Walton Goggins or Trammell Tillman
Who Should Win: Stellan Skarsgard for Andor or Patrick Ball for The Pitt, but they aren’t nominated, so Trammell Tillman

Allow me to get on my soapbox real quick: I like The White Lotus, I love Goggins -- but if anyone from The White Lotus wins this award I'll personally come after everyone with a vote. Isaac’s performance and character are absolute duds, Goggins' character is devoid of charisma and is a brooding-nothing, and Rockwell is utterly electric -- but in the show for like 10 seconds. Patrick Schwarzenegger would be the best male nominee from TWL.

I like the other Severance actors/characters as well, but don't think either are deserving of a win. Trammell Tillman is the clear-cut choice here for his work as Mr. Millchick -- dry and mysterious, surprisingly hilarious, and no side character nominated this year added as much to their show as Tillman did in Severance. But the Academy fucked up not nominating Stellan for Andor — absolute crime.

Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series

Patricia Arquette, Severance
Carrie Coon, The White Lotus
Katherine LaNasa, The Pitt
Julianne Nicholson, Paradise
Parker Posey, The White Lotus
Natasha Rothwell, The White Lotus
Aimee Lou Wood, The White Lotus

Who Will Win: Carrie Coon
Who Should Win: Carrie Coon

After shitting on the men of The White Lotus, allow me to praise the women of The White Lotus. I think Leslie Bibb or Michelle Monaghan deserved a nod more than Rothwell, but all the ladies in this show do a great job, and in my opinion carry the season. But Carrie Coon is far and away my favorite, and I think her performance is the most impactful of the nominees. Troubled, unpredictable, entertaining, and extremely heartfelt by the end.

Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series

Uzo Aduba, The Residence
Kristen Bell, Nobody Wants This
Quinta Brunson, Abbott Elementary
Ayo Edebiri, The Bear
Jean Smart, Hacks

Who Will Win: Jean Smart
Who Should Win: Ayo Adebiri

While I don't think The Bear should be honored as a comedy as a whole -- I do think the performances deserve their due shine. And Ayo Adebiri may not get that honor for Season 3 -- but come next Emmys, she better be an all-time heavy favorite, because her acting in Season 4 is otherworldly good.

Jean Smart is the heavy favorite and a very deserving winner. She carries so much of this show on her back and is the most important cog in the Hacks machine. She's hilarious, deep, surprising, complex, and takes this show to the higher echelon that voters are finally recognizing.

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series

Jason Segel, Shrinking
Martin Short, Only Murders in the Building
Jeremy Allen White, The Bear
Seth Rogen, The Studio
Adam Brody, Nobody Wants This

Who Will Win: Seth Rogen
Who Should Win: Seth Rogen

All 5 of these guys are actors I very much like, but in the truest sense of Lead Actor in a Comedy series, no one does a better job than Rogen. The delusional, manic personality of a Studio Executive who is obsessed with Actors and wants nothing more than for them to like him is hilarious to watch unfold. The physical comedy of the part is also essential in the show's success, and while his character is easy to hate at times, he's downright hysterical and impossible not to be entertained by.

Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series

Liza Colón-Zayas, The Bear
Hannah Einbinder, Hacks
Kathryn Hahn, The Studio
Janelle James, Abbott Elementary
Catherine O’Hara, The Studio
Sheryl Lee Ralph, Abbott Elementary
Jessica Williams, Shrinking

Who Will Win: Hannah Einbinder
Who Should Win: Janelle James

Deep category of great performers -- and should be a relatively competitive race. I think if Colon-Zayas is going to win one, it'll be for Season 3 of The Bear and her standalone episode. Hahn and O'Hara are doing hilarious work in The Studio, but I can't choose between them. And while it seems like Hannah Einbinder is the current favorite for Hacks -- and I think her Ava character is a riot and a good presence opposite of Jean Smart -- I go back to Abbott here.

If I had to choose between Randolph's Barbara and James' Ava -- I lean Ava. She's just so much funnier and more outrageous -- she gets a lot more runway to make viewers laugh. But she also gets more heartfelt moments in this season, which separates the performance from past seasons.

Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series

Ike Barinholtz, The Studio
Colman Domingo, The Four Seasons
Harrison Ford, Shrinking
Jeff Hiller, Somebody Somewhere
Ebon Moss-Bachrach, The Bear
Michael Urie, Shrinking
Bowen Yang, Saturday Night Live

Who Will Win: Harrison Ford or Ike Barinholtz
Who Should Win: Ebon Moss-Bachrach

Last but not least, Supporting Actor in a Comedy. A couple shows here I didn't watch (The Four Seasons and Somebody Somewhere) and a show that quite literally should never be nominated for this award unless Will Ferrell or Adam Sandler rejoin the cast (SNL), it appears to be a 2-horse race between Barinholtz and Harrison Ford.

Barinholtz is an outrageously funny actor -- I love him in every side movie character role he takes, I think he's incredible in The Studio and makes me laugh harder than any other character. And it would be fitting to see Sal Saperstein win an award of his own.

Harrison Ford is an absolute legend in cinema, and he's playing a very funny character in a very beloved show — and the Academy would love nothing more than a Ford acceptance speech at their event.

But if Cousin Richie is nominated, I'm voting for him every time. I love Ebon Moss-Bachrach so much and think Richie in The Bear is the role of a lifetime for him. His presence is what made me love this show so much, and as the progressive seasons have made me lose that love a little, I still always have a soft spot for Cousin. So I'd give him my vote -- and Barinholtz would be my next choice by a landslide.
